We Give Thanks

We Give Thanks

We give thanks for those who came before
We give thanks for those yet to come
for those who have served in war and
those who have served to make peace.
We give thanks to the farmers
the teachers
the iron workers
the skydivers
those in prison who have not abandoned hope
those who bring us our daily news
those who bring us into this world naked and bloody and
those who follow us out.
We give thanks to those who have led
this great nation in times of plenty and
in times of less
and to those who have yet to be called upon to lead
thanks for the future and the past
for that sparkling hybrid moment we call now
for all that has been,
and all that is yet to be.
